Abstract
526,913. Electricity supply. TAYLOR, A. M. March 29, 1939, No. 9743. [Class 38 (iv)] Transmission line arrangements.-To maintain stability when a fault develops in one side of a duplicate three-phase transmission line, emergency boosting transformer, normally inert, is arranged to inject a leading quadrature current before the circuit breakers open on the fault. The primary winding of such a booster EB2 is connected across reactance R2, which keeps up the two bar potential when a fault 5 develops on the link II and the effect of which, under normal load, is eliminated by a quadrature booster RCB2 energized by the line potential. The booster EB2 injects into the sound line I a leading current immediately the fault S brings the line potential to earth, this current cancelling the lag due to the reactance Rl and the booster RCB1, so that before the circuit breaker has opened on the fault synchronizing current is free to flow. Auxiliary transformers CT1, CT2 cancel the e.m.f. induced in the primary windings of the emergency boosters EB1, EB2 by the load current in their secondary windings. The invention applies to long transmission lines with distributed quadrature " steady-state " boosters and to shorter lines wherein synchronous condensers are distributed along the line and employed in place of the reactance-cancelling boosters RCB1, RCB2.
