Abstract

526,866. Re-use of white water of paper manufacture ; aluminium salts. REISS. A., and KAHN, A. March 27, 1939, No. 9569. [Class 96] [Also in Group III] Suspended substances in waste water of papermanufacture are rapidly brought down by precipitating aluminium hydroxide by lime &c., e.g., at pH=5 to 7, additional aluminium salt being added if needed, the sludge being then separated, treated with acid, e.g., sulphuric to give an aluminium salt, e.g., for sizing, and leaving sediment for addition to pulp As illustrated, waste water containing the greatest quantity of filler &c. is pumped at P 1 to the mixing vat D to which is also pumped at P 2 , part of that containing less filler, the remainder being treated with lime &c and passing to a settling tank A from which the precipitate &c. pass to an acid treatment vessel B the residue from which passing, e.g., to pulp beaters C 1 , C 2 . Water from the tank A collected at E may be used for felt cleaning &c.
