Abstract
526,231. Wallpaper pasting apparatus. THOMAS, B. M. Jan. 12, 1939, No. 1129/38. [Class 140] In machines for pasting wallpaper of the kind in which the paper, after trimming, passes over a pasting roll mounted in a trough, the paper is passed between the pasting roll and a pressure roll and then around the latter to bring the pasted side uppermost. To avoid paste reaching the patterned side, the pressure roll is shorter than the width of the paper, and excess paste is removed from the edges by adjustable wipers. As shown, the paste trough 4 is mounted between side plates 1 connected by tie-bars 2 and supporting the pasting roll 5 in bearings 6. The pressure roll 7 is normally supported in slots 9 and is urged towards the roll 5 by springs 10 connected to a rod 15 adapted to be engaged in serrated abutments 11 to vary the pressure. When it is desired to release the pressure, the roll 5 is supported in slots 12. The roll 7 may bear directly upon the paper against the roll 5 or it may be slightly spaced, to adjust the amount of adhesive, by axially moving rubber-tyred discs 14 into alignment with serrated surfaces on the roll 5. A roll of paper is supported in slotted extensions 27 upon a removable spindle and between adjustable plates 28 so as to align with trimming-devices 20. Wipers 18 are carried by cranked members 16 adjustable by screws 17. From the roll 7 the paper passes over a grooved cutter bar 30. A collapsable measuring-rod 32 is detachably supported in jaws 33. The apparatus is described in association with supporting apparatus as described in Specification 513,620, and with trimming, marking and cutting arrangements as described in Specifications 509,467 and 509,468.
