[Class 79 (iii)] A" walking." machine comprises two feet or walking beams D<SP>1</SP>, two approximately vertical levers D each having its lower end pivoted to the foot, a power-driven rotary crank, eccentric or equivalent member C acting on an intermediate point of each lever, and a link E connected at one end to the upper part of each lever and at its other end to a fixed part of the machine A, the links E in their mean positions being approximately horizontal. The rotary members C may be eccentric to driving shafts B and provided with rollers which engage circular tracks on the levers D, the eccentrics being mounted on bearings on fixed tubular axles enclosing the shafts B as described in Specification 525,908. The levers are preferably connected to the feet D<SP>1</SP> by universal or like joints D<SP>2</SP> and springs are provided to bias each foot to a predetermined position, relatively to its lever. The distance between the centre of the eccentric C and the point at which the lever D is connected to the foot D<SP>1</SP> may be 3 to 3¢ times the eccentricity of the eccentric, and the length of the link E may be 3 times this eccentricity.
