Abstract
525,764. Moulding synthetic resins. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Feb. 28, 1939, No. 6567. Convention date, March 1, 1938. [Class 87 (ii)] To prevent the cracking at elevated temperatures of coverings of synthetic resinous compositions that have been extruded on to conductors, the covering is subjected immediately after extrusion for a short time to a temperature higher than that of the extrusion to cause the internal tension in the covering to decay. The covered conductor may pass from the extrusion machine through an oven. In an example, a conductor heated to 200‹F. is coated with hot plasticized polyvinyl chloride composition by extrusion and passes through an oven heated to 700‹F. to 900‹F. for a few seconds and is thus cooled. The invention may also be applied to the annealing of polyvinyl acetate, polyisobutylene, polyethylacrylate, rubber hydrochloride, polystyrene &c. Specification 437,662 is referred to.
