525,675. Thermionic distributers. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. April 20, 1939, No. 11954. Convention date, April 23, 1938. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (v)] In multiplex telephony employing thermionic distributers, cathode ray tubes are used with a number of control electrodes or anodes arranged side by side in the direction of movement of the cathode ray beam which is displaced abruptly from one control electrode or anode to the next. At the transmitter a cathode ray tube 6, Fig. 1, has arranged behind the slit-like apertures in a screen 10, a number of control electrodes 11 connected to the sources 1-4. A common anode 12 is connected to the transmission line 5. The cathode ray beam is deflected by a voltage of the form shown in Fig. 2, applied to the plates 13 from the source 14 which may be of the form described in Specification 523,441. The beam thus impinges on the anode 12 under the control of one of the electrodes 11 for a time # t and is cut off and passes on to the next slit in a time T. -The cathode ray tube 16 at the receiver has its control electrode 18 connected to the transmission line and the beam is deflected over anodes 20, connected to the receivers 1-4, in synchronism with the beam at the transmitter. The source 22 providing the deflecting potentials is synchronized by means of the interruptions in the oscillations received over line 5 which are separated by filter 23.
