Abstract

525,614. Charging rotary furnaces. JORGENSEIN, M. VOGEL-..Feb. 23, 1939, No. 6077. Con-. vention date, Feb. 24, 1938. [Class 51 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] Materials are transferred in a stream of substantially uniform thickness from a jigging conveyer to a surface moving transversely thereto by a deflector. The application to the distribution of materials on a rotary grate, such as that described in Specification 404,018, is shown in Fig. 1. The raw materials pass from a pug mill 50 into a trough 43 through an elongated opening 48. The trough is contained in a casing 30 which is supported by pivoted arms 32 and is reciprocated by an eccentric 38. In order that the casing may be withdrawn from the grate 15 when desired, the lower ends of the arms are attached to beams 33 having flanged wheels 34 movable on tracks 35. At the discharge end of the trough the material is directed through an opening 55 by a pair of adjustable plates 56, Fig. 2, and falls on to a comb 61 which directs it on to the grate. The opening is covered by a hood 59, Fig. 3, from which the teeth 61 incline downwardly in the direction opposite to that in which the bottom of the grate moves. The finer particles pass through the comb and are deposited on a layer of the coarser particles. The materials, after being carried by the grate through substantially a complete revolution, fall into a trough 21 containing a screw conveyer 26 which transfers them to a shoot 27 leading into the main compartment of the kiln: The bottom of the trough forms the top of a chamber 45 through which hot gases are drawn from the interior of the grate. Escape of gases from the kiln through the trough is prevented by a flexible flap 62. Hot gases from the kiln, which have passed through the grate and the material on it into the space between the extension 13 of the kiln and the grate, pass through openings 18 into a ring 16, and thence to a hood 19 connected to an' outlet 20.
