Abstract
525,583. Soldering. BARNETT, J. Feb. 23, 1939, No. 6064. [Class 83 (iv)]. In making a flux-cored solder, flux such as rosin is extruded from a nozzle to form a flux cored solder containing a single core of flux which constitutes at least 7 per cent. of the total weight thereof and one or more plain solder wires are then twisted together with the cored wire to reduce the weight of flux to the normal 3 to 5 per cent. Preferably two plain wires are used each of half the cross-sectional area of the cored wire, where cross-sectional area of flux is half the total cross-sectional area, so that the flux comprises 10 per cent. of the total weight of the cored wire. The core may be non-circular with a periphery at least 25 per cent. greater than the periphery of a core of circular crosssection of the same cross-sectional area. It may consist of three limbs or eight or twelve radiating fingers connected to a central portion. Interruptions in the flux constituting the core are thus avoided.
