Abstract
525,418. Discharge apparatus. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN. Feb. 20, 1939, No. 5638. Convention date, Feb. 22, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] To suppress secondary electron emission from and consequent charging of, the walls or other insulating members of discharge tubes, they are coated with one or more of the oxides or sulphides of tungsten, molybdenum, copper or silver having a secondary emission ratio less than unity at least up to 300-350 volts. The coatings are so thin that the walls carrying them are transparent to light and that insulators carrying them are transparent to heat radiation. To form a tungsten oxide layer, tungsten may be evaporated at 2300‹C, in air at 2 min. pressure. A molybdenum oxide layer is similarly formed by evaporating molybdenum. Alternatively, the coating compounds may be evaporated in vacuo or inert gas or sprayed on. The application to the wall of a fluorescent anode tuning indicator combined with a triode is described and application to tubes with fluorescent screens, photoelectric cells, luminous tubes, ultra-violet radiators and amplifier tubes are referred to.
