[Class 146 (iii)] A pencil holder is provided with a lead carrier 3 slidable in a bore in the barrel 1 and having a conical projection d extending trough a slot g in the barrel into engagement with a conical recess b in a ring 2 slidable and rotatable on the barrel, relative axial movement of the carrier and ring for clamping the lead being obtained by rotary movement of the ring through the cooperation of an extension c on the projection d with a cam slot a in the ring; the extension c also serves as a stop to limit the rotation of the ring.
