Abstract
523,747. Making magnets. LANDIS & GYR AKT.-GES. Jan. 13, 1939, No. 1233. Convention date, Dec. 3, 1938. Drawings to Specification. [Classes 83 (i) and 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXXV] Casting composite articles.-A permanent brake magnet comprises a material of high coercive force which forms at least the polepieces of the magnet, and a body of workable material, the two ends and at least part of one side of thich are exposed; these materials forming an unwelded unitary structure. Strips of magnet steel and iron may be rolled together to form a composite bar which is bent to the required section and individual magnets are cut from the bar. Alternatively, the final section may be imparted to the bar during the rolling operation. The body of workable material may be drilled and tapped or otherwise machined to enable the magnet to be secured in an apparatus such as an electricity meter. The magnet steel may be cast around the iron body. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes a form in which the iron is in the form of a thin-walled sleeve of polygonal section, or it may be a cylinder with slotted walls to permit yielding of the sleeve. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
