Abstract
523,565. Magnifying-appliances. BUSCH AKT.-GES. OPTISCHE INDUSTRIE. E. Jan. 5, 1939, No. 420. Convention date, Jan 7, 1938. [Class 97 (i)] A magnifying glass is provided with a casing or cover for the lens and with means for automatically returning the lens to its enclosed position when the instrument is not in use. In the form shown in Figs 1, 2 and 4, the lens a is carried by a slide b within the casing c and can be moved out of the casing, against the action of a spring e by means of a knob d projecting through a slot in the casing. The lens may be pivoted to the slide as shown. The slide may have a lug f engaging the lip g of the casing when the lens is withdrawn to relieve the user's thumb of the tension of the spring e. The lug is disengaged from the lip by a spring h when the knob is released. In Fig. 8 the lens o is projected from the casing, against the action of a spring f, by a lever q pivoted at p and having teeth q<SP>1</SP> engaging teeth r on a pinion secured to a spindle on which the lens is mounted. In Fig. 11 the lens is provided with an apertured cover y which is rotated against the action of a spring j to uncover the lens.
