Abstract

[Class 3 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXXVIII and XXXIX] A loudspeaker constructed from sheet metal comprises a forward throat 4, Fig. 1, to which the driving unit 6 is attached, a rearward annular passage between walls 1, 2 enclosing the unit 6 and a forward mouth bounded by walls 9, 10, forming a re-entrant horn constituting the only horn-loading of the unit 6. The several parts are spaced and fastened by spacers 3 and bolts 11, 12. The unit 6 may be as described in Specification 489,548, or 519,625, [both in Group XXXIX], A fixing bush 13 is provided at the side of the loudspeaker, which may be mounted on the roof of an automobile. A translucent sign 15 may be fitted in The mouth of the horn in front of a lamp 16 in a casing 14. In a modification, Fig. 3, a short throat 46 in front of the unit 40 leads to a passage formed by walls 45, 48 and having a rearward annular portion followed by an outer annular forward portion or mouth in which a volume control 52 may be arranged. A fixing bracket 50 is provided at the back of the unit. The several parts are fastened and spaced by screws 49, and spacers 43, 44. In a third modification the passages resemble the passages of Fig. 3, but a longer throat is provided formed by a flared tubular part, the rearward annular passage has a double bend in it, and the rear of the loudspeaker is closed by a sealed plate. Specifications 234,773, 246,634, and 309,162, [all in Class 13], are referred to for loudspeakers with reentrant horns.
