Abstract

523,359. Luminescent screens. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 2, 1939, No. 68. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1937. Drawings to Specification. [Class 39 (i)] Luminescent screens for cathode-ray tubes &c. consisting of luminescent material attached to a transparent screen by a binder are constructed to diminish halation. For this purpose :-(a) the luminescent particles may be so attached to the binder that their area of contact therewith is less than 20 per cent. of their total superficial area ; this may be effected by spreading the binder on the screen, allowing it to get tacky and dusting the luminescent material on to it lightly ; or (b) some light absorbing material, such as finely divided carbon or manganese dioxide may be dispersed in the binder to absorb light incident obliquely. To reduce halation by light trapped in the binder layer a binding material may be used, such as boron trioxide, the refraction index of which is less than that of the glass.
