Abstract
523,124. Liquid controllers. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., and BIRRER, J. Dec. 23, 1938, No. 37472. [Class 38 (iii)] Combination of resistances.-A polyphase liquid resistance la, 1 b, 1c, is connected to the slip rings of an induction motor 2, and an additional resistance comprising limbs 4a, 4b, 4c is connected across the phases and controlled by switches 3a, 3b, 3c, so arranged on the phase leads that in the open position of the switches the resistance 4a, 4b, 4c is connected with each limb in series with a phase lead to the main resistance 1a, 1 b, 1c, while in the closed position the switches connect the resistance 4a, 4b, 4c, in delta across the phases. Thus high resistance may be inserted in the secondary circuit of the motor for countercurrent braking and normal resistance for starting. Further switches 5a, 5b, 5c may short-circuit sections of the resistance 4a, 4b, 4c for braking control. The resistance 4a, 4b, 4c, may be of the wire, grid or liquid type.
