Abstract

522,712. Cleaning floors. BINGHAM, G. C. Dec. 14, 1938, No. 36398. [Class 138 (i)] A machine for washing and drying floors comprises a scrubbing unit consisting of concentric circular brushes D, D' revolving in opposite directions, and a travelling band B carrying cloth, flannel or brushes, for drying the floor. The band R is passed between squeezing rollers U, U<SP>1</SP> which expel water into a grid O<SP>1</SP> and thence into a tank O provided with a filter O<SP>2</SP> and so back to the brushes past a valve O<SP>3</SP>. The brushes are mounted on tubular holders D<SP>2</SP>, E<SP>2</SP> provided with worm teeth driven in opposite directions by skew gearing on shafts H, H<SP>1</SP> from a shaft M in turn driven by a motor P. The brushes can move up and down, owing to the worm gearing, to meet inequalities in the flooring. The band R passes round a grooved member S surrounding the brushes and contacts with the floor. It is guided by pulleys driven off the shaft M.
