Abstract

835,235. Floor washing machines. GRIFFITHS, J. S. Sept. 26, 1956 [Sept. 28, 1955], No. 27577/55. Class 138 (1). A floor washing machine comprises an endless travelling mop 28 and one or more brushes 41 ; wherein the mop is led successively through a tank 11 of water; between squeeze rollers 32, 33 ; into contact with a floor ; and between wringing rollers 29, 30 to express dirty liquid prior to re-entering the tank 11 ; and wherein the brushes move in contact with the floor. Two tanks 11, 12 are provided for clean and dirty water respectively ; and a third tank 48 containing detergent is detachably mounted in front of tank 12 and feeds detergent through an outlet 51 to the brushes. Tank 11 has a valved connection 54 leading to a transverse spray pipe 55 ; and a hose 56 is provided for emptying tank 12. The mop, the rotary brushes, and the front wheels 15 are driven by an electric motor 52 through belt and bevel gear connections. In the Provisional Specification, the electric motor is mounted on the machine handle and the drive is transferred to the front wheel axle via the wringing rollers. The centre brush is driven through bevel gears by this axle, and the edges of the outer brushes frictionally engage the edge of the centre brush and are rotated thereby.
