Abstract

522,672. Paper. MEYER, H. June 2, 1939, [Class 96] [Also in Groups XL and IV] Paper and articles made thereof which are of an off-white or yellowish tint are treated during or after manufacture by immersion or other methods with a solution of a compound which exhibits a blue fluorescence, preferably a compound of the coumarin group, e.g., methyl umbelliferon in order to obtain a pure white appearance. In an example a solution containing borax and methyl umbelliferon in water is used.
