[Class 37] In order to adjust the final value of a resistance, metal or other conducting layers are provided on the surface of the resistance and are ground away until the resistance has the desired value. The terminal contacts may be used also for correcting layers, being made initially larger than necessary and reduced in size for correction. The correcting layers may be formed by applying a colloidal silver salt in a solvent with reduction by thermal treatment, or silver layers may be made by applying silver oxide and reducing with simultaneous burning in. These layers may be welded to rigid metal contacts. The process may be applied to negative temperature coefficient resistances consisting of oxides and metals such as copper, titanium, and uranium. Terminal contacts b, c may be arranged in one plane on one side of the resistor a, a metal layer d being arranged on the opposite side. Correction of the resistance is effected by reducing the areas of the metal layers b, c, d. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91, comprises also the following subjectmatter. In order to produce semi-conductor resistances of accurately predetermined value, a small percentage of alkali or alkali-earth compounds, for example sodium or potassium hydroxides or carbonates, is mixed with the initial substance before pressing, the pressed article being subjected to thermal treatment such as sintering. With a resistance of copper oxide, about 0.1 to 1 per cent. of sodium or potassium hydroxide or carbonate may be added, a sintering temperature of 700‹C. being suitable. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
