Abstract

522,232. Grinding twist &c. drills. BARBER, J. H. and BRIDGE, J. F. Dec. 10, 1938, No. 36070. [Class 60] In a work-holder for sharpening fluted drills such as twist drills, a drill 5 is clamped in a V-shaped recess in a fixed jaw 2 by a V-shaped projection on a movable jaw 4 which is moved by a screwed spindle 8 and a nut 7 fixed axially by a flange 9 and rotated by a hand grip 6. A projection 11 on the jaw 4 engages the end of the drill to position it axially and a pin 13 engages the side of a flute to position it circumferentially. The pin 13 is eccentrically mounted on a spindle 12 which is rotatably adjustable for different sized drills and is locked by clamp 15. The jaws are carried by a holder 1 mounted on a spindle 16 rotatable in a bearing 17 which is supported on a slide rest movable to and from the grinding disc 18, the holder being adjusted by means of a scale 12 to suit different sized drills and rotation in the bearing producing the clearance on the end of the drill.
