Abstract

522,084. Blinds. MASON, J. March 16, 1939, 'No. 8496. [Class 20 (iii)] Rotation of a blind roller &c. 4 in a clockwise direction, Fig. 2, is normally prevented by gravity operated pawls 12 which are slidably mounted in radial slots 11 in a member 10 rotatable with the roller, and are adapted to coact with an inclined recess 9 in the upper side of a collar 8 fixed to a stationary supporting spindle 6 of said roller, but is permitted, by a slight anti-clockwise rotation of the roller and member 10, to effect retraction of the relevant pawl followed by a clockwise rotation sufficiently quick to prevent inward sliding of the pawls and consequent re-engagement thereof with the said recess 9. The construction is also that pawls may be rendered inoperative, to permit free rotation of the roller in either direction, by removing the spindle from its bracket and rotating it through 180 degrees so that the recess 9 is located on the underside of the ,collar 8. The roller is mounted on the spindle 6 by a block 14 which is fixed to the roller and carries the member 10, and it is formed at its bearing end with flats 7 and is secured at the other end to a rod 18 supported within the roller at 19 and entering a socket 17<SP>1</SP> on the member 10; further, the spindle end 7 is provided with an indentation 17 in alignment with the recess 9 to indicate the position of said recess. A torsion spring 20 is secured at one end to the rod 18 and at the other end to the member 10 or block 14. Specification 217,446, [Class 20 (iii)], is referred to.
