Description

l 1,633,026 June 2l 1927' M. KRATTLI l CURTAINv FIXTURE Filed Feb. 1e, 1925 Quorum Patented June 21, 1927.
UNITED STATES rationalizev KRATTLI, or KANSAS CITY, MISSOURI. y
`CURTAIN' FIXTURE.
Application filed February 18, 1925. Serial No. 10,082.
My invention relates to improvements in curtain fixtures. and my object is to provide a fixture of this character which consists of few parts and is substantial in construction and reliable in operation, and in order that the invention may be fully understood reference will now be had to the accompanying drawing, in which:
Fig. 1 is a broken elevation of a window casing and curtain roller equipped with my fixture.
Fig. 2 is a vertical cross section on line 2-2 of Fig. 3.
Fig. 3 is a front elevation of the major portion of the fixture with one end of the curtain roller mounted therein.
Fig. 4 is a side elevation of the parts shown by Figs. 2 and 3, with the curtain roller removed.
.l Fig 5 shows a bracket for support-ing one end of the curtain roller.
Referring now in det-ail to the various parts, 2 designates the upper portion of a window casing. 4 designates the curtain, and 6 the curtain roller upon Ywhich the curtain 4 is adapt-ed to wind. The curtain roller 6 is of conventional form, it being pro vided at one end with a fixed trunnion 8 and mounted at its opposite end upon a shaft 10 to which it is yieldably connected in the conventional way through the intermediacy of a coil spring, not shown. The outer end of the shaft 10 is rectangular as shown by Fig. 5, and is adapted to fit in the lower portion of a rectangular slot 12 formed in a bracket 14, secured to one side of the window casing 2.
The trunnion 8 is fixed to a ratchet wheel 13 which is secured to the adjacent end of the roller 6. The trunnion 8 is journaled in a bearing 16 formed in a lever 18 mounted at one end upon a fulcrum 2O projecting from a bracket 22, which is secured to the opposite side of the window casing 2 from that containing the bracket 14. The free end of the lever 18 operates between upper and lower stops 24 and 26, respectively, formed integral with or otherwise fixed to the adjacent side of 'the bracket 22. A plate 28 is secured to the sides of the stops 24 and 26 to coact with the bracket 22 in preventing lateral displacement of the lever 18.
The lever 18 is normally held upwardly against the stop 24 by means of a cable 30 and a spring 32. The cable 30 is connected at its lower end to an eye 34 upon the lever 18 and at its upper end to the forward end of the spring 32 which is secured at its rear portion to the bracket 22 by pins 36. lVhcn in its normally raised position the lever 18 holds the ratchet wheel 13 in engagement with a detent 38 fixed to the adjacent side of the bracket 22.
40 designates a wire or other suitable cable depending from an eye 42 on the underside of the lever 18. The lower end of the cable 40 is provided with an eye 44, to which 'the upper end of a' cord 46 of suitable length is connected.
With the parts constructed and arranged as shown' and described, it is apparent that when it is desired to raise or lower the curtain 4, the ring 48 depending from Said cur- 'tain is grasped with one hand and the cord 46 is grasped with the other hand. The cord 46 is then pulled downwardly until checked by the lever 18 contacting the lower stop 26. As the lever 18 moves downwardly it disengages the ratchet wheel 13 from the detent 30, so that the curtain roller 6 may rotate and permit the curtain 4 to be adjusted up or down. After the'curtain 4 has been adjusted as desired the cable'46 is released to permit the spring 32 to raise 'the lever 18 and carry the ratchet wheel 13 into position to engage the detent 38 and thus hold the cur tain 4 at its point of adjustment.
lVhile I have shown and described the preferred form of invention, I reserve all rights to such modifications thereof as properly fall within the spirit and scope of the invention as claimed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
1. A fixture of the character described consisting of a lever for supporting one end of a curtain roller, a bracket upon' which said lever is fulcrumed, spaced stops on Said bracket and between which the free end of said lever projects, a toothed wheel fixed to one end of the roller, a detent on -the bracket, spring means for yieldably holding the toothed wheel in engagement with said detent, and means for causing the lever to disengage the toothed wheel from said detent.
2. A fixture of the character described consisting of a lever for supporting one end of a curtain roller, a bracket upon which said lever is fulcrumed, spaced stops on said bracket for limiting the movement of said lever, a toothed wheel fixed to one end of the roller, a detent on the bracket, a s ring mounted upon'the bracket and albove t` le` ver, a cable attached to the-lever and said spring to coact with the latter in yieldably holdingr the toothed .in engagement@ with the det-ent, and means for causingr the lever to disengage the toothed wheel bracket forlmitng the movement ef saidy lever, a plate bridging said stops and coacting 'with `the `braeketjrn holding the lever from lateral movement, a toothed .Wheel o fixed to one end of the roller, a detent on the brackehspring means for yield-ably holding the toothed wheel Vin engagement with said detentrpand a cord attached to the lever to cause the same to disengage the toot-hed `wheel from said datent. Y o
In testimony whereof, I aix my signature.
