The invention is a specially arranged guard for the control of roller window blinds.

The object of the invention is to control the action of window blinds and prevents them from winding up beyond a predetermined point when the blind rises accidentally or slips from the hand when it is being raised manually.

A further object of the invention is to prevent damage to window blinds, springs and rollers caused by the forceful, uncontrolled recoil of the blind by its own spring tension, and to provide a guard which may be easily installed by placing it over the end of the blind and then moving the guard to the middle of the blind.

Other features and advantages of the invention will appear from the following description taken in connection with the drawing, wherein:

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the guard;

Figure 2 is a front view of the guard in use;

Figure 3 is a view taken substantially on the line 3-3 of Figure 2;

Figure 4 is a view showing an alternate form of the guard.

My invention comprises a piece of wire or other flexible material arranged to form a rectangle, the upper portion of which has been turned to form circles of the sides I, the lower portion of which is a straight shank forming the back 2 with the end 4 of the circles I ending so as to leave an open space 3 between its end 4 and the back 2, the top of the guard being the horizontal cross member i and the bottom of the guard being the horizontal cross member 5. Installertion is accomplished by placing the end B of the roller and blind 1 thru the circles I with the lower portion ofthe blind 8 passing horizontally thru the open space 3 when the guard may be moved to the middle 9 of the roller-blind 7 ready for use. When the blind 8 is raised by hand under the usual tension control it passes without resistance thru the open space 3 onto the roller 6. If the blind 8 slips from the hand or raises accidentally Without control it is permitted to pass rapidly thru the open space 3 onto the roller 6 but as the horizontal member iii in the bottom of the blind 8 approaches the open space 3 it is stopped and held firmly by and between the members t and 2 causing the guard to roll slightly with the blind 8 until the back of the guard 2 contacts the window casing H where it becomes stationary and leaves the blind 8 in a position for use without difficulty and without having been damaged. With the guard made of a flat flexible material or other material the above description applies except reference to the horizontal cross members is omitted and the terms top 4 and bottom 5 are used in lieu thereof.

Having thus fully described the invention, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:

A guard for roller window blinds comprising a rectangular member having one end thereof curled over into proximity to a line transversely across said member and spaced from the other end thereof, thereby forming an open ended 1ongitudinally slotted cylindrical portion and a tab portion extending from the slot, said cylindrical portion adapted to receive a roller and shade thereon, said shade being provided with a shade stick, said slot adapted to pass said shade but to prevent passage of said stick.
