Abstract
521,272. Mounting for signal pistols on aircraft. BOWEN, K., and TORRESEN, C. T. Nov. 10, 1938, No. 32738. [Classes 9 (ii) and 119] A signal or Very pistol mount for use on aircraft, and of the kind in which the pistol is attachable to a holder and retained by latch mechanism, has the latch mechanism arranged for release solely upon " breaking or hingeing the pistol grip thereby preventing accidental removal and subsequent discharge of the pistol within the aircraft. The pistol shown comprises a barrel portion 4 which is inserted in rubber lined holder 7 itself resiliently mounted by rubber recoil springs 15 in a casing 13 fixed by an extension 18 to the fuselage 20. The holder 7 carries spring-controlled catch levers 21 which engage over a portion 22 of the pistol fixed to the barrel and are retained in position by a wedge lever 30 pressed outward by a spring 32 to engage between the lower arms 27 of the catch levers which surround the holder. When the pistol grip is moved about the pivot 2 to the broken line position, the trigger guard 6 engages the arm 33 of the lever 30 and unlocks the catch levers 21 which move to the release position under the action of springs 26. The pistol in the broken position can then be withdrawn from the holder.
