Abstract

521,151. Alternating-current motors. VEREL, B. P. Nov. 7, 1938, No. 32240. [Class 35] In a synchronous motor of the type employing direct-current excitation the armature is provided with a short-circuited auxiliary winding the pole-pitch of which is an even multiple of that of the main winding and the field-magnet is so arranged that it can produce a flux the pitch of which is the same multiple of the pitch of the working flux as the pitch of the auxiliary winding is of'that of the main winding; by rearranging the field magnet flux as described a braking torque is produced which may cooperate with the effect produced by a damping- winding in the pole faces. The Figure shows such an arrangement in which the stator is the armature and is provided with auxiliary coils 1 of twice the pitch of the main coils 9, 10, Consecutive field magnet poles have opposite polarities in normal work, for braking the polarities of alternate pairs 5 of poles are reversed as indicated by the bracketed letters.
