Abstract
521,067. Erasers ; pencil sharpeners ; cleaning types. DENHOF, W. Nov. 17, 1938, No. 33417. Convention date, Feb. 11. [Class 146 (iii)] [Also in Group XVI] An eraser 11 for use with typewriters is rotated by a flexible shaft 8 driven from a spirally-grooved member 6 carried in suitable supports and actuated by a nut 5 traversed axially but not rotatably. Member 6 is carried by the typewriter or an attachment or stand consisting of a base 1 with side walls 2 and an abutment 3 for the machine. The eraser is carried by a mandrel 10 which may have a taper or polygonal connection with the shaft 8.. The mandrel 10 is encased in a tubular housing 13 serving as a handle and carrying a fan 17 to expel the resultant dust. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the eraser may be replaced by a pencil sharpener or a brush for cleaning the type. The tool 44, Fig. 4 (Cancelled), may be driven from the helical shaft 39 rotated by a nut 41 and mounted on arms 33, 31 carried by a guide rod 20. Arm 31 has a sleeve 21 and lug 22 secured to an endless cord 24 engaged by a ratchet drive 23 actuated by a key 25 so as to position the tool. In a modification, Fig. 6 (Cancelled), the tool 11 is carried by bevel wheels having a hand detent 67 and driven by a flexible shaft 55 from a clockwork mechanism 58 rewound by a rack 59 mounted on the carriage 46. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
