Abstract

520,937. Coating glass surfaces. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and DAVIES, L. J. Oct. 3, 1938, No. 28681. [Class 56] A method of applying a coating of luminescent powder to the inner wall of a glass tube consists in blowing the powder into the tube while it is being drawn and the glass is still plastic. The tubing may be made in a machine of the Danner type, the powder being blown in with the air stream through the hollow mandrel. Lengths of the tube, intended for making into electric discharge tubes, have their ends heated to remove the luminescent powder where stems or electrode carriers are to be sealed into the tubes.
