Abstract

520,460. Valve generating circuits. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd., CHERRY, E. C., and CLAYTON, R. J. Oct. 31, 1938, No. 31458. [Class 40 (v)] In a saw-tooth oscillation generator in which a condenser 3 is charged (or discharged) -at a constant rate through a resistance 7, and is discharged (or charged) abruptly through a thermionic valve 1, the grid circuit of the latter includes a resistance 4 and condenser 5 in parallel, the time constant of which in conjunction with the rate of increase of anode voltage determines the frequency of oscillation, and an inductance 6 coupled to an inductance 2 in series with the condenser 3 in such manner that when the valve begins to conduct the grid voltage is made more positive and thus the discharging (or charging) of the condenser 3 through the valve is expedited. The valve 1 may be a multi-grid valve, synchronizing signals being applied to one of the additional grids. Current through the resistance 7 may be supplied through a pentode or like valve operating at constant current. The voltage derived from the condenser 3 may be amplified for application to the deflecting coils of a cathode-ray tube, and the amplifier may be enclosed in the same envelope as the oscillator, the two valves sharing the same cathode. For example, a triode-hexode may be adapted to serve the two functions. Specification 425,035 is referred to.
