519,815. Torque-measuring wrenches. AUTOMOTIVE MAINTENANCE MACHINERY CO. Oct. 4, 1938, No. 28832. Convention date, May 31. [Classes 106 (ii) and 106 (iv)] [Also in.Group XXIII] The device includes an elongated head member 20, a work engaging member 37 rotatably mounted in the head member, a spring bar 33 having one end secured to the work engaging member 37, the other end of the bar 33 being connected with the head member 20, pressure indicating mechanism 61, and means connecting thismechanism with the member 37 for operation by relative movement between the head member and the member 37. The spring bar 33 is inserted in a bore at the end of member 37 and passes just through the end. The outer end of the bar is received in a curved bearing provided in a fitting 41 which can swivel in the head. The indicating mechanism 61 is inserted bodily into the head and secured by screws 45. A pin 56 protrudes to engage in a fork 57b in a member 57 attached to the work-engaging member 37. The pin 56 is attached to a rack bar 53 which gears with a pinion on a spindle carrying a conical indicator 46. In the case of a very heavy shock to the device, the member 57 flexes and thus protects the indicating mechanism. A cover 61a is snapped over a base plate 42 carrying spring balls, which engage a groove 63 in the cover. The latter has a window 65 through which the scale can be read. Sets of coloured markings on the face and edge of a drum may be substituted for the graduations.
