Abstract

519,767. Hydraulic shock - absorbers. CANTOGNO, L. V. DI, May 23, 1939, No. 15340. Convention date, June 7, 1938. [Class 108 (iii)] A hydraulic self-adjusting, damper for motor vehicles with a cylinder 1a and an operating spindle 2 has a piston 5 with a longitudinal conduit 7 traversed by two throttling rods 8, 9 secured one to each end 13, 14 of the damper body 1, the rods having one or more axial grooves 15, 16 of varying depth. The piston is in two sections joined by resilient links 6 and clamping the forked arm 3 of an operating spindle 2 acting on shoulders 4 of the piston 5. A tube 25 connects the conduits in the half pistons without preventing relative displacement and forming a single conduit 7 putting into communication both ends of the cylinder in which the piston is displaced. 'The grooves in the throttling rods are inclined in the same direction. These rods are adjustably secured to the ends of the cylinder and are independently varied by threaded discs 10, 11 in bushes 17, 18 adjustably held by nuts 19 secured to end caps 13, 14 of the cylinder and having springs 12 or a cardan joint. If the fluid aperture of the groove 16 in the rod 9 is wider than that of the groove 15, an auxiliary discharge valve 20 is provided. Valves 21, 22 return liquid from the filling tank 23 to the cylinder ends in case of a leak through the end caps.
