Abstract

519,678. Valves. JACKSON & BRO., Ltd., HAMMOND, R., and FISH, J. R. Sept. 22, 1938, No. 27589. [Class 135] A rotary disc isolating valve particularly adapted for use in connection with open or pressure bleaching kiers has the valve member formed as a piston to prevent the escape of steam to the atmosphere. In the form shown in the Figs. the valve member 2 which is turned by a handle 20 is rotatably and slidably mounted on a spindle 11 secured to the casing and is wedged against its seat by turning a hand wheel 12 integral with a nut 13 engaging a thread on the spindle. The diametrically arranged inlet and outlet ports are each surrounded by an annular rubber sealing member 6 having an inturned lip adapted to be pressed by steam pressure against the flat under surface of the valve member. The cylindrical surface of the valve member where it engages the cylinder 5 is provided with a split or unsplit packing ring 9. The intermediate part of the connecting passage in the valve member is bifurcated to pass on either side of the central pivot and a supplementary passage 18 is provided in the valve member adapted, when the main passage is in the closed position, to connect the inlet pipe to the space between the valve member and its seat outside the packing rings 6. This space is connected to drain by a pipe 17. The valve member has a pair of projections 16 spaced 90 degrees apart and adapted to co-operate with a pair of stops 15 spaced 180 degrees apart. One of the stops 15 is fitted with an indicating tablet 21 to show the closed position of the valve.
