Convention dates, Sept 24, 1937, Jan. 18, and March 17, 1938. Addition to 470,121. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXXVII] The base or fitting for embedding in the plaster of a wall on which the conductors are laid before plastering as described in the parent Specification, comprises a cup-shaped base 3 that is set in the plaster 2 and has holes in its bottom spaced to receive the fixing screws of standard switches, sockets, or other fittings 4 and a cover 5 engaging the base to enclose the fitting. The holes may be plain for the screws 6 to enter dowels 13 in the brickwork 1 or they may be screw-threaded, and in this case may be formed in a metal insert when the base is of moulded insulation. The base may be formed with a flange 11 to receive the cover 5 or the cover may be flanged to overlap the surrounding plaster. Alternatively the cover may extend down to the bottom of the base, fitting inside the side wall with or without a liner. An anchoring flange 19 may be provided or shallow projections 20, Fig. 11, may be formed on the exterior to produce a generally square outline, interengaging projections and recesses 25, 26 being' provided for assembling several fittings together, the mounting being facilitated by temporarily securing the fittings to a bar 27. If the fitting is plane at the back it may be mounted on internal bosses 29, Fig. 13, in which screwed bushes 22 may be moulded and between which strengthening ribs may run. The back of the fitting may, however, have recesses 30 to fit over the bosses in which case it fits down against the bottom and the strengthening ribs are dispensed with. The leads entering the fitting are retained in an annular space within the base and cover by means of flanges 31, Fig. 13, formed on the cover 5, or corresponding formations on the fitting 4. Thin portions 9 are formed in the walls for breaking away to provide cable entry apertures and corresponding thin portions 10 in the bottom.
