Abstract
519,543. Control of A.C. motors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 22, 1938, No. 27655. Convention date, Sept. 23, 1937. [Class 38 (iii)] Braking.-Upon operation of a stop switch H, an alternating-current hoisting motor M is disconnected from its supply and a contactor SG is closed to connect a source of directcurrent to the motor, an auxiliary relay A being then de-energized to disconnect a brake coil B. When the mechanical brake controlled by the coil B becomes effective contacts BK open to de-energize the contactor SG and terminate the electrical braking. The control applies to the lowering operation of the hoist, and a slow lowering speed may be obtained by introducing the electrical braking by operation of a switch DG to energize the relay SG, the mechanical brake coil B remaining energized until the stop switch H is operated.
