Abstract
518,747. Drills. CROFTON & CO. (ENGINEERS), Ltd., C., and MANN, R. W. Aug. 31, 1938, No. 25521. [Class 83 (iii)] A bit for use in boring holes in stone or coal in quarrying or mining operations comprises a scroll 20 the extremity of which is formed with a central spigot 24 screw threaded for the reception of a nut 38, a reamer bit 10 formed with a socket 30 to fit the spigot and with a transverse groove 32 to fit the extremities 22 of the ribs of the scroll and a pilot bit 16 integral with or secured to the nut. In the form shown, the reamer bit has two blades 12 to cut out the full diameter of the hole and two shorter blades 14 adapted to occupy the annular space between the pilot bit 16 and the inner edges of the blades 12. The scroll may be provided with lateral ribs 28 adapted to fit within a groove 34 beneath the blades 14 of the reamer. The reamer may have a core drilled for the supply of water to the work.
