Abstract

518,633. Floating structures. CREED, F. G. Aug. 30, 1938, No, 25409. [Class 113 (ii)] A floating lighthouse or like structure for anchoring in deep water comprises an elongated cylinder 1, preferably of circular cross - section, divided by a transverse partition 2 into two unequal lengths of which the smaller, above the point e, constitutes a buoyant chamber and is only partially submerged, whilst the larger, below the point e, is open ended, wholly submerged, and nearly or entirely filled with water, a portion of the cylinder between the points e and f being of decreasing cross-sectional area in an upward direction. The upper buoyant part is fitted with windows 8 and is divided by further transverse partitions such as 2' into a number of chambers to provide living accommodation, storage space, and space for the accommodation of signalling, pumping, and other apparatus. The partitions 2, 2<1> may be flat or curved, and strengthening strands or spokes may be provided for the lower submerged part. Submarine cables 21 may be led up through the submerged part, and the structure may be anchored by means of three equally spaced anchors attached to chains or cables 15 sliding through guideways 17.
