Abstract
518,381. Windows. PILKINGTON BROS., Ltd., and LEATHWOOD, M. N. Aug. 23, 1938. No. 24778. [Class 20 (iii)] A method of making double-glazed windows comprising panes 1 with a rubber &c. separatorstrip 2 and frames 4 fitted over sealing-material 8, such as bitumen, consists in extracting the ordinarily-moist air from the cavity 3 through an aperture 5 and replacing same by relatively dry air or other gas. As shown, the hole 5 is provided with a tubular liner 6 on to which a pipe 9 is fitted for effecting the air-change in the space 3. Separate exhaust and admission holes may be provided. Finally, a plug 10 is fitted in the tube 6 and the edge-aperture closed by sealing-material 11.
