Abstract
518,286. Diaphragm valves. SAUNDERS VALVE CO., Ltd., SAUNDERS, P. K., and SUTTON. F. Aug. 20, 1938, Nos. 24559/38 and 16791/39. [Class 135] A diaphragm valve of the kind in which the bore is intersected by a shallow weir extending across the bore and having a concave face forming a seating for the diaphragm has an angle casing with the weir situated on the inside of the bend in the bore in the casing. In the form shown in the Figure the two parts of the bore on either side of the weir 5 are brought close together and then splayed apart at approximately 45 degrees to provide flanged connections 2 at right angles. The axis of the diaphragm bonnet and actuating gear is shown coaxial with one of the flanged connections but according to the first Provis:onal Spec'fication it may make an angle of 45 degrees with both of them. A strengthening web 3 is cast between the two branches of the casing In a modification showing the invention applied to a bib-tap the inlet bore has one straight side and merges from a circular section at the flange to a semicircular section at the diaphragm.
