Abstract

518,142. Making plaster board. JOINTLESS WALLS & CEILINGS, Ltd., and WARRINER, M. H. Sept. 12, 1938, No. 26573. [Class 87 (ii)] In the manufacture of plaster board of the kind having an exposed layer of plaster applied to a single backing sheet or to the outer surface of one of the covering sheets of board consisting of plaster interposed between sheets of paper &c. plaster is applied to a backing sheet to form an exposed plaster surface, and one or more layers are removed from the plaster, when it has set, to produce a smooth level surface free from soft crumbly plaster. The exposed surface may be produced by the dry method described in Specification 447,541, or the plaster may be applied as a semi-liquid mass. As shown, a backing sheet is moved along a converer 1, Fig. 1, beneath a hopper A for dry plaster having a reciprocating side 4 and a rotary distributing brush 6. The sheet then moves beneath a hopper B having an inclined spreader 9, and beneath water sprays C. The conveyer is vibrated by a rotating hub D having projections 11. The board 14; Fig. 5 thus produced is placed on a table and is planed by a cutter 17, Fig. 5, carried on a reciprocating carriage having spring-pressed rollers 27 for keeping the board flat during the operation. The plaster removed by the cutter is withdrawn by suction.
