Abstract

518,100. Type-printing telegraphy. AUTOPHON AKT.-GES. Aug. 15, 1938, No. 24042. Convention date, Aug. 31, 1937. Addition to 492,000. [Class 40 (iii)] A type-printing telegraph transmitter, having spring-loaded permutation members which on the depression of a key are first displaced out of their normal positions and are then released to take up under the action of their springs, positions determined by the key depressed, has its permutation members pivotally mounted and normally lying in substantially vertical planes passing approximately through the pivotal axis. Each key T has a shank TS mounted on links TA, TB, pivoted at TC, TD so as to move in a vertical direction, and a spring TF tends to hold the key in its raised position. Each key is formed with a comb L provided with teeth LA...LE, corresponding to the code combination of the character and in addition a control tooth LX and a locking tooth LY. Extending beneath the comb are five code bars KA ... KE, a control bar X and a locking bar Y, mounted on horizontal pivots Z. The bars KA...KE are normally biased in a clockwise direction by springs KF and the bar X in an anti-clockwise direction by a spring XF. The locking bar Y in its normal position closes contact y2 and holds contact y1 open. During the transmission of signals the key TAN is depressed and a circuit is completed for a magnet BM which moves a bar R to the right, thereby allowing the bar X to move counter clockwise under the action of its spring XF. In addition the permutation bars KA-KE are moved to a vertical position to co-operate with the teeth on the comb L. On the depression of a key T the tooth LX rotates the bar X so that contact x is closed and a circuit is completed for a relay YM, which rotates the locking bar Y in a clockwise direction, thereby closing contact y1 and locking the operated key in its depressed position. The projection on the bar Y also locks the unactuated keys against depression and the contact y2 is opened. At the contact y1 a circuit is completed for the magnet DM of a interrupter UR of a rotary distributor and the de-energization of the magnet RM consequent on the opening of the contact y2 allows the bar R to move to the left and the permutation bars KA...KE not held by the teeth of the comb L to move to the right under the action of their springs and to open the associate contacts a...e which are engaged by the arm d1 of the distributor. When the arm d2 of the distributor reaches its switch contact a relay NR is energized and at contact nr2 opens the circuit of the stepping magnet and at contact nr 1 de-energizes the electromagnet YM which releases the locking bar Y and allows the key T to return to its normal position. A shift bar UA, movable lengthwise on pins P, has teeth UA which lie beneath the struts TA of some of the keys and in its alternative positions lock the letter keys or the figures-andsigns keys. The bar is moved from one position to the other by members US engaged by members TAS controlled by shift keys. The arm TB is provided with an extension having an arm A which engages a rail C to limit the downward movement of the key T. A type lever H3 connected by links H1, H2 to an arm D can be operated from the keys T by means of a lug M on an extension of the link TB or by a bar SG operated by the printing magnet of a receiver (not shown). The return movement of the keys T is cushioned by resilient members B connected to the supporting bar S.
