Abstract
517,798. Treating cork. ROUY, A. L. M A., DUFOUR, R., and LEDUC, H. A. Nov. 3, 1938;. No. 31902. Convention date, Nov. 4. 1937. [Class 145 (i)] [Also in Groups XI and V] Agglomerated cork is manufactured by the heat treatment of a mixture of ground cork with binders such as casein, gelatine, pitch, concentrated, diluted or whipped latex, resins &c. rendered electrically conducting by the addition of particles of carbon or steel filings. The mixture is compressed into a mould or packed into a tray and mounted or continuously fed between the plates of an electric condenser charged with high frequency alternating current. The mixture may also be fed from a hopper 11, Fig. 7, to the space, between two metal plates 15<1>, 15<2>, electrically insulated between themselves. High frequency alternating current is supplied from a transformer 3<1>, 4' to condenser plates 2<1>, 2<2> which are insulated from the plates 15<1>, 15<2> or the plates 2<2>, 15<2> may be connected together. The mixture to be agglomerated may be subjected to a further heat treatment by the electromagnetic field of an induction coil. A hopper 22, Fig. 6, feeds the mixture to a rotating drum 6<2> having at one end a rod electrode 2<2> and a cylindrical electrode 2<1>, which are connected to a high frequency generator 4, and at the other end to an induction coil 5. Specification 472,671, [Group XI], is referred to.
