516,784. Milling and engraving machines. DECKEL, F. July 7, 1938, No. 20148. Convention date, Aug. 3, 1937. [Class 83 (iii)] A copying, milling or engraving machine having a tracer and cutter mounted on a pantograph has a lever universally pivoted on a fixed point of the machine and connected to the tracer and cutter, the pantograph being supported on the machine so as to be movable transversely to its plane and parallel to itself and the tracer or the cutter being rigidly attached to the pantograph whilst the other is movable transversely to the plane thereof. The pantograph 5 ... 7 is mounted on a vertical pivot 8 carried by a slide 3 freely movable on a vertical guide 2 attached to the machine frame 1, the rotary cutter 10 driven by means such as an electric motor (not shown), being rigidly secured in a holder 9 and the tracer 11 being freely slidable through a guide 12. The lever 13 is freely supported on perpendicular axes 14, 15 coinciding with the axis 8 and attached to the frame 1, is freely slidable through its support and a sleeve 16 on the tool holder 9, and is pivoted at 17 to the tracer. Vertical movement of the tracer is thereby transmitted to the pantograph and the cutter, as well as horizontal movement and the weight of the pantograph assists in damping out vibrations. The tracer may be rigid with the pantograph and the cutter axially movable thereon, and the cutter and tracer may be interchanged for producing enlarged work. The lever 13 may be fixedly pivoted at 14 and slidable through a pivot at 17, and the cutter holder 9 is adjustable along the arm 6 for varying the ratio of reproduction. For single plane engraving the tracer may be rigidly clamped to the pantograph at 12 or the lever 13 may be removed and the slide 3 fixed to its guide 2. Balancing parts.-The pantograph 5... 7 may be wholly or partially balanced vertically by means of springs or weights.
