Abstract
516,472. Doors; windows. BRIGHT, T. J. R. June 25, 1938, No. 18871. [Class 20 (iii)] A draught-excluding means, particularly for motor-car doors, windows and the like, comprises a strip of resilient material which is formed in cross - section to provide a substantially flat portion a for attachment purposes and an effective draught-excluding portion b of incomplete - tubular or channel form having a free edge turned so as to overhang the flat portion a, and an outer covering c of flexible material is provided on the strip so as to extend over the said free edge and into the interior of the portion b. The strip is shown in Fig. 2 as applied to the box-pillar d of a vehicle door, the flat portion a of the strip being clamped between a trimming strip f and a plate or flange e which extends from the pillar into the effective portion b of the resilient strip; alternatively, the pillar may be shaped to provide a deep recess to receive the portion b of the strip. The strip shown in Fig. 6 is formed with the portion b of a flat convex shape. The strip may be made of rubber or the like, or of resilient sheet-metal which is bent or rolled to the desired shape, and in this case, the strip may be provided with a plurality of tranverse parallel slits disposed over the the portion b. The strip shown in Fig. 11 is consructed from resilent wire i which is first bent into a wavy or zig-zag form and then shaped to provide the attachment and effective portions a<2>. b<2>; it is then covered or embedded in fabric or other flexible material c. The strip shown in Fig. 13 is reinforced over the back of the flat portion a with a strip m of sheet metal or canvas; alternatively, the strip m may be embedded in the portion a or shaped to a narrow channel form so as to enclose such portion. The strip shown in Fig. 16 comprises a flat portion a<3> in the form of a metal strip and a tubular portion b' of india-rubber, these parts being connected together and enclosed in fabric c; one edge a<4> of the strip a' may be shaped to provide a channel a<5> for the reception of one edge of the portion b<3>, and the outer edge a<6> of this strip is turned on itself to provide an anchorage for the fabric c. The wall of the rubber strip shown in Fig. 17 is locally thickened at the junction between the portions a, b. The flat portion a of the strip may be slit transversely at intervals to facilitate attachment of the strip around corners and curves.
