Abstract
516,387. Thermionic cathodes. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and GOODCHILD, F. D. June 24, 1938, No. 18800. [Class 39 (i)] A directly heated cathode is made of hollow tubing and is fixed at one end while its other end is slidably guided without tensioning or compressing means. In the form shown, the cathode comprises lengths of coated copper or nickel tubing of oval, circular or rectangular section connected in series by welded on links P attached to rods G sliding in apertures in the insulators A, B. The free ends of the cathode are secured to the leading-in conductors L, M by wires Q of molybdenum extending from the interior of the tubes. In a modification the cathode is in the form of a sinuous flanged filament, each turn of the wire being rigidly fixed at one end of the cathode. The other ends of the wire may pass over hooks having a sliding fit in a second insulating plate. The tube may have one or more grids.
