Abstract
469,584. Discharge apparatus. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. Nov. 20, 1936, No. 31804. Convention date, March 21. [Class 39 (i)] Concentric leading-in conductors are sealed into a discharge device, the inner ends of the conductors are arranged in fixed relation to each other, and one of the conductors comprises between its inner end and the sealing point a metallic braid or like flexible member. An anode 1 is sealed to glass bulbs 2, 3 which are sealed through metal parts 4 to tubular conductors 5, 8. A bulb 6 is sealed to the conductor 5 and the conductor 8 is sealed through a glass portion 9 and a metal portion 10 to a tube secured on an inner conductor 12 which is closed at its outer end by a disc 14 soldered thereon. A grid is wound on wires 16 screwed into a flanged member 17 which is secured by screws on the perforated end of the conductor 5. Screens 22 are supported through members 21 on the member 17. The filaments 37 are supported on hooks 44 which are secured to a plate 45 adapted to rock on a polished stud 42 soldered to a disc 43. Cross-pieces secure the disc 43 to a flanged member 38 in which the filament-tensioning rod 27 is screwed. Notched screens 46 register the hooks 44 and are supported by rods from the plate 45 and separated by springs. The rod 27 is spaced from the conductor 5 by star-shaped insulators 24, 25 fixed by rings 26. The filament is tensioned by springs 28, 29 held in members 30 and the tension may be adjusted by the nuts 34. The other ends of the filaments are bound to two groups of conductors 52 which are connected respectively to an end-cap 65, screwed to the conductor 8, and to a member 66 carried by a tube 67 which is connected to the inner conductor 12 through a flexible braid 69. The terminal 66 is arranged between insulating members 73, 74 which are screwed to a plate 75 screwed to the end cap 62. The conductors 52 are fixed by spiral springs within one or the other of two screens each of which comprises a plate clipped riveted or soldered to a ring 59. Screens 80, 81, 86 protect the seals, and the anode is provided with a water jacket 83 having a supply pipe 82, discharge pipes 84, 85 and suitable guides for the water.
