Abstract
516,161. Cooling dynamo-electric machines. HARLAND ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and GREENWOOD, L. July 26, 1938, No. 22151. [Class 35] In enclosed machines of the type in which internal air is circulated through tubes outside the stator over which external cooling air is passed the ends of these'tubes are sloped to fit plates inclined to the machine axis and covering apertures in the machine frame. In the arrangement shown the tubes 5 are straight and of rectangular cross section and are secured to flat plates 7 covering apertures 8 in the frame 10; alternatively the plates may be conical. Internal air is circulated through the tubes. 5 and round the end windings 11 by a fan 2; external air is circulated over the tubes 5 by a fan 1, guide plates 12 leaving an unrestricted inlet and outlet, but causing the air to come into close contact with the tubes 5.
