Abstract
516,086. Sealing furnace entrances. FALLON, J. July 12, 1938, No. 20566. [Class 51 (ii)] Means for sealing an entrance (or exit) of continuously or intermittently operated furnaces comprises flexible curtains 8 suspended across a furnace chamber from a rotatable drum 11 or band conveyer 7 mounted in the upper part of the entrance or exit, their speed (peripheral) being synchronized by means of chains 9 with that of the goods conveyed through the furnace. The curtains conform to the outline of the goods and preferably are of greater width at the foot than the furnace chamber. The drum and conveyer are preferably both used and the curtains hinged to them at spaced intervals. Flexible fingers 10 smooth out folds in the curtains on top of the conveyer and secure them against premature release.
