Abstract

515,059. Making bags. JAMES RIVER PAPER PRODUCTS, Inc. May 20, 1938, No. 15145. Convention date, July 31, 1937. [Class 94 (ii)] In a machine for sealing the bottoms of bags by the use of a thermoplastic adhesive previously hardened on to the bag material, tubular bag blanks are fed by a belt 110 and drum 116, recessed at 122, 124, and are tucked at their leading ends between the jaws-28, 30 of. transversely disposed clamps 22, by a camoperated oscillating plate 128. The lower jaws 28 of the clamps 22 are of metal, with a resilient seating, and are supported at the upper run of their carrying conveyor 2 by rails 24, while the upper jaws 30 are of metal, spring-urged away from the jaws 28 and including heating elements actuated through brushes from slide conductor rails. The upper jaws 30 are progressively pressed downwardly by cam rails 60, 82 to seal the bottoms of the bags. A hand wheel device which operates the shafts 70 through a chain 80, permits of the raising of the cam rail as a whole.
