514,209. Controlling aircraft. WESTLAND AIRCRAFT, Ltd., RICHARDS, S. T. A., and DIGBY, F. J. W. W. April 4, 1938, No. 10287: [Class 4] - An aircraft having engines cooled by air passing through the wings has a flap for controlling the flow of the cooling air' operatively connected to .a lift-increasing device such as a flap or slot so that the position of the cooling-air flap is determined by the .position of the lift-increasing device. In one form, Fig. 2, the cooling air for the radiator passes through a channel formed in the wing, the channel having-its lower surface formed by the flap a and its upper surface by the cooling-air flap c. The flap c is hinged to the wing at d and carries trackways so that as the flap a moves outwards the roller g causes the flap c to take up successively the positions shown. in dotted lines 33-37. The trackway carries a roller i which, when the flap a is closed, engages a bracket j, and thus relatively locks the flaps -in their closed positions. Other mechanisms shown for carrying ,the invention into effect include links and pivoted levers, toothed gearing, and flexible cables, and in some cases the flap is interconnected to a slot at the leading. edge of the wing. Controls such as are disclosed in Specification 375,115, [Group XXV], or 419,310 may be used. ,
