Abstract

514,050. Rotary pumps and engines. NUTSFORD, A. April 14, 1938, No. 11476. [Class 110 (ii)] The pump or engine comprises rotary vanes a mounted on spindles a' in a rotor b, and two crescent-shaped working chambers c. Cranks a<2> connect the vane spindles with an end plate which rotates on an offset axis. Inlet and delivery ports g, h are provided. In an alternative arrangement described in the Provisional Specification, the crank couplings are replaced by sun-and-planet gearing. The peripheral extent of a delivery port may be adjustable to control the compression ratio, when the invention is applied to a compressor. ' For use as a steam engine, two vanes only may be used. Two units may be arranged as a compressor supplying gas to a similarly constructed internal-combustion engine. Cooling air may flow through transverse ducts in the end-plates, rotor vanes and casing. The inlet and outlet ports may be arranged in the inside casing, or on the outside.
