Abstract

513,315. Hoppers. ASH CO. (LONDON), Ltd., and SILK, P. B. March 8, 1938, No. 7258. [Class 78 (i)] A hopper comprises an external framework lined with metal plates which are hooked to or otherwise loosely assembled on the framework so that they may freely expand and are shaped at their edges so as to overlap. Fig. 7 shows a projection 12 integral with a lining plate 10 and. hooking over preferably inclined lugs 14 bolted to the framework 16. Fig. 13 shows in crosssectional plan the labyrinth assembly of the meeting edges of four rectangular plates, this assembly giving a fairly watertight joint which permits cooling water to be added to furnace ash in the hopper without too great a loss. Vertical edges of the plates may be formed as straight flanges fitting into channelled flanges, and the straight flange may have a set-off lower part joined to the upper by an incline and bearing against a similarly shaped channelled flange. A recess is also formed at the top of the straight flange to receive the bottom of the channelled flange of the plate above. The insides of the plates may form a flat surface to which a refractory lining can be applied, and an inwardly-projecting ledge may be provided at the bottom.
